Conversation Pieces - Pure creative inspiration... the alchemy of Memphis rap
In the 11th edition of the Conversation Pieces series, which aims to shine a light on some inspired gems of creativity in hip-hop that I’ve encountered, we discuss what I'm calling 'pure creative inspiration'. This is the precise feeling I got when I recently first listened to Da Devil's Playground, and discovered the alchemy of Memphis rap.
This discovery catalyzed an ensuing series of events that steered me in a more positive direction in life, as I approached the end of 2024, which showed me that even the smallest doses of creative inspiration can make a world of difference.
#122 - Album Alchemy - Raw Extractions (w/ Lukah & Hollow Sol)
Lukah, Memphis MC, has been on a tear in the past couple of years, who’s approach to music is as well-thought out as it comes.
He is joined by his right-hand man, Hollow Sol, who is the primary engineer for Lukah that mixes all of his music.
Together they joined forced to create one of the hardest and biggest sounding rap albums of the year, titled Raw Extractions.
If you wanna know about the incredibly intricate concept for this album, and how it ended up sounding so grand and ambitious... this is the episode for you.
#101 - Cities Aviv INTERVIEW
In Episode 101, we continue the discussion on the genius of Cities Aviv... this time with the man himself! The artistry of Memphis' Cities Aviv can be described appropriately by the word, groundbreaking. He is one of the most important acts in hip-hop in recent memory.
If you’re curious to know what makes such a creative mind like this tick, this is the episode for you!
#100 - Cities Aviv – MAN PLAYS THE HORN REVIEW (feat. The Next Movement Podcast)
In Episode 100 (wow, we hit a century mark of episodes!), I was joined by the lovely folks at The Next Movement Podcast to discuss the remarkably creative MAN PLAYS THE HORN, created by Memphis virtuoso, Cities Aviv.
#78 - Lukah - Why Look Up, God’s in the Mirror REVIEW
It would've been easy for Lukah to rest on his laurels after a very successful When the Black Hand Touches You, and just make another version of that album... but this isn’t When the Black Hand Touches You Part 2, or Chickenwire Part 2 either.
